Absolutely brilliant! A highlight of our trip to Tasmania. It's been recently overhauled and re-opened and provides a fascinating insight into the world of competitive wood chopping. I knew very little about this before, but asking a few questions of the guy at the door revealed that he was the 1992 world champion! He then gave us a vivid guided tour and oral history of wood chopping in Tassie. I'm so glad this place exists. Highly recommend. FYIβThey have a donation box but do not take card, so bring cash! Same goes for the gift shop which, sadly, does not sell axes of any kind.

Nice parkland and river nearby with playground and plenty of parking. Axemans Hall of Fame houses a series of local craft stalls as well as a Thai Restaurant. Museum section itself would likely appeal only to fans of log chopping.

Nice area next to the Mersey River. Craft market inside typical of many country type craft markets. Timberwork In particular is fantastic and so Tasmanian. Museum itself which has static displays of interest only to those heavily into log chopping.

The Thai Imperial Restaurant and The Makers Market are open for business but the Museum section at the Axemans Hall of Fame is closed for a few more months and is expected to reopen around Christmas, New Year. With planning underway by The Australian Axemans Association in conjunction with the Latrobe Council the Museum will return bigger and better than ever.
